Partly, the secret is to go out of season; I took this one in April. Given that the British summer weather is so unpredictable, you can end up with better weather anyway.
But yes, there are plenty "secret" beaches. Get out of Newquay, St Ives and the other popular places, and head along the coast. If you find a car park that isn't in a town, stop and have a look.

This must be a secret part of Cornwall - the only time I went to a Cornish beach I was competing for space with 60,0000 other people!
